There’s a new movement afoot among pet health care practitioners and it’s taking the industry by storm. It’s called the Fear Free Initiative and the CoastView Veterinary Hospital is proud to be a part of it. It’s a fresh approach to animal medicine that advocates using proven scientific methods to protect and enhance the mental and emotional wellbeing of a pet along with their physical health. The Fear Free Initiative creates a partnership between pet owners and their Fear Free veterinarian to create a healthy environment for the whole animal both at the doctor’s office and at home. It provides educational resources, training, and certification for veterinary professionals and staff as well as pet owners. The Initiative has been making a real difference in the lives of pets everywhere and now your pet will enjoy the benefits of Fear Free training at the CoastView Veterinary Hospital in Clairemont.
What Is The Fear Free Initiative?
Founded in 2016 by Dr. Marty Becker, known as ‘America’s Veterinarian’ and best remembered for his 17-year run of regular appearances on ABC’s “Good Morning America” television show, the Fear Free Initiative states that its mission is “…to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets by inspiring and educating the people who care for them”. They provide educational and training materials created by some of the foremost veterinary behaviorists, internists, anesthesiologists, technicians, and pet experts in the world and offer certification courses for pet health care professionals and support staff, as well as free learning materials for pet owners. The program has proven to be very effective at improving the emotional and psychological well-being of companion animals and thus their physical health as well. It has become very popular with animal hospitals and clinics across the nation as more opt to have their veterinarians and staff attain certification through the Fear Free Initiative. It’s helped our staff here at CoastView to learn to better provide a stress-free, calming, and rewards-based clinical environment for our patients, and their owners are learning to do the same at home. We’ve had very positive feedback from our clients.
